SUN JVM Options

SUN JVM Options

Standard Options
-classpath(-cp) classpath
Specify a list of directories, JAR archives, and ZIP archives to search for class files. Class path entries are separated by semicolons (;). Specifying -classpath or -cp overrides any setting of the CLASSPATH environment variable.

If -classpath and -cp are not used and CLASSPATH is not set, the user class path consists of the current directory (.).
-Dproperty=value
Set a system property value. If value is a string that contains spaces, you must enclose the string in double quotes: java -Dfoo="some string" SomeClass
-jar
Execute a program encapsulated in a JAR file, the manifest of the JAR file must contain a line of the form Main-Class: classname.
-verbose, -verbose:class
Display information about each class loaded.
-verbose:gc
Report on each garbage collection event.
-X
Display information about non-standard options and exit.
Non-Standard Options
* Boolean options are turned on with -XX:+<option> and turned off with -XX:-<option>.
* Numeric options are set with -XX:<option>=<number>. Numbers can include 'm' or 'M' for megabytes, 'k' or 'K' for kilobytes, and 'g' or 'G' for gigabytes.
* String options are set with -XX:<option>=<string>, are usually used to specify a file, a path, or a list of commands
Performance Options
-XX:MaxPermSize=64m

Size of the Permanent Generation, that is a *seperate* allocated memory region that is used for e.g. allocating classes.
-Xmsn

Specify the initial size, in bytes, of the memory allocation pool: -Xms6m
-Xmxn
